Check the Mileage
Lower mileage generally means less wear, but context matters. A five-year-old vehicle with 40,000 km on paved city roads is preferable to a three-year-old vehicle with 80,000 km of mountain driving. Always cross-reference mileage against the auction inspection report.
Consider the Model Year
Newer model years benefit from updated safety technology, improved fuel efficiency, and more current design. However, a well-maintained older model can offer exceptional value. Aim for vehicles within the last seven years for the best balance of price, parts availability, and reliability.
Evaluate Engine Condition
Our auction inspection reports rate the engine bay for oil leaks, unusual wear, and general cleanliness. Grades are assigned by certified Japanese inspectors. Engine ratings of A (excellent) or B (good) indicate a well-maintained powertrain with no recorded faults.
Review the Auction Grade
Japanese auction grades provide an independent, standardised assessment of each vehicle's overall condition. Grades are assigned after a physical inspection by a licensed appraiser and are your most reliable quality indicator.
Understand Accident History
Auction sheets clearly mark any repaired collision damage using a body diagram. Marks on structural panels (pillars, floor, engine compartment) are more serious than minor cosmetic repairs. Vehicles with no accident marks offer the greatest long-term reliability.

Showroom Condition
Near-perfect inside and out. Extremely low mileage, no repairs, often ex-dealer stock.
Excellent
Virtually no scratches or dents. Very well maintained with complete service records.
Very Good
Light surface marks only. No structural repairs. Highly recommended for most buyers.
Good
Minor cosmetic imperfections. Mechanically sound with no significant accident history.
Above Average
Some visible scratches or small dents. Good mechanical condition. Excellent budget option.
